4:00 PM Topic #3: “Stray Current” – A Marine surveyor and corrosion specialist will present a program dealing with the problems of faulty wiring in vessels and marinas that are the causes of corrosion loss to the vessels and the risk of human electrocution. The presenters will explain how the marina can find leaking current and the ways that the problem with the vessel and the docks can be fixed. They will show you how to train the marina maintenance staff to sniff out offending conditions and give you some suggestions on how to deal with the offending vessel owner. As vessels age and newer vessels incorrectly install equipment the problem of stray current is increasing at an alarming rate. All those interested at the end of the session, Greg Watson will lead an optional field trip to practice the techniques discussed in the presentation.

9:00 AM Topic #7: “Spills Aren’t Slick” – The old adage, ‘an ounce of prevention’ is particularly true when applied to cleaning up oil spills. The recent Dalco spill in Puget Sound resulted in clean-up costs of over $2,000 per gallon plus potentially enormous liability and resources restoration claims. So, the real solution to avoiding costly and damaging spills is to prevent them at your marina and if one does occur, being prepared to provide a safe, rapid and legal cleanup response.
